Job Qualification :
The GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist will provide technical innovation and support for the identification of conservation targets and delineation of conservation priorities for Conservation International’s (CI) marine and terrestrial conservation program in Indonesia. The position will collaborate closely with the team to specifically focus on conducting spatial analysis in order to support conservation and development planning in specific region through decision support system. Providing the technical expertise needed to assist in developing methods to support CI’s climate, freshwater, food, health and other securities strategy by integrating GIS, RS, conservation and other supporting data as well as producing maps for specific purposes.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and produce spatial data and information (thematic maps and satellite images) for project needs as well as other requirement required by Conservation Science Unit, CI Indonesia.
- Prepare GIS and remote sensing data procurement in digital and hardcopy forms.
- Conduct maps digitalization as needed for the conservation program.
- Perform satellite images interpretation through precise standard methods in order to produce high quality maps (i.e. land-cover, forest change, carbon, etc.).
- Manage and supervise the sub-contract mapping works if necessary.
- Assist Conservation Science Unit at CI Indonesia in the development of concept, strategies and materials and providing training related to GIS, remote sensing and mapping
- Provide technical inputs on the concepts and strategies related to GIS and remote sensing aspects in the further proposal development.
- Provide technical inputs on GIS and remote sensing for project monitoring and evaluation.
- Prepare training materials related to GIS and remote sensing and conduct training activities as needed in the national and site levels.
- Provide support on proposals and reports development as well as communication works
- Develop high quality maps (JPEG or printout) for proposals, reports, presentations and other communication materials.
- Presenting the GIS and mapping works that has been conducted to related stakeholders in national and site levels as needed.
- S2 (MSc) or (BSc) with relevant experience on conservation, spatial land use planning, natural resources management, or environmental planning with at least 4 years work experience in the use of GIS/RS.
- In-depth knowledge of geodesy and geographic information issues (e.g. projection, datum, data conversion etc.) and data management standards.
- Expert user of GIS software (i.e. ArcView, ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, IDRISI), including both vector and raster formats and spatial analysis methods. Experienced in cartography and map presentation design.
- Experience with MS-ACCESS and graphic software would be an advantage.
- Good networking skills and knowledge on international and national NGOs in Indonesia.
- Excellent communication skills both in English and Bahasa Indonesia (writing, oral and presentation).
- Experience with working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, field surveys and ground checking for at least two years.
- Strong organizational skills
